Diabetic Syringes and Insulin Supplies

- Gauge: syringes vary from 28 gauges to 31 gauges (31 being the thinnest). 31 gauge diabetic syringes are only available in short length and should only be used with doctor's approval.
- Syringe barrels: barrels are available in 3/10 cc (holds up to 30 units), 1/2 cc (holds up to 50 units), and 1 cc (hold up to 100 units). Select the right size based upon the number of units taken at one time. This allows for ease in measuring units.
How does insulin work?
Insulin works by the food your body digests and is broken into a simple sugar that generates energy your body needs for daily activities. With no insulin the simple sugars will not be able to get in the body's cells to generate energy. With no simple sugars or glucose in the cells your blood sugar will rise.
Insulin is normally released into the blood by the pancreas. If diagnosed with diabetes, a small amount or no insulin is made and circulated in the body. Or, insulin that is made does not work right.
